What is Pure?
Pure is a sophisticated Current Research Information System (CRIS) designed to integrate and link all the data that comprise an institution's research ecosystem. Pure collects and stores research content such as publications, datasets, activities, projects, prizes, grants, etc., so CEU can better promote researchers and their work. Many data types (e.g. publication data) are automatically harvested from external sources.
Why is CEU introducing Pure?
Pure will provide a holistic overview of CEU’s research activity and its impact. Thanks to automated workflows, it will reduce the amount of manual work on entering data such as publications, projects, activities etc. It will simplify research administration and optimize reporting and compliance.
Who is eligible to have a Pure profile?
Academic Staff (Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Full Professors, University Professors, Associate Research Fellows, Research Fellows, Senior Research Fellows, Postdoctoral Research Fellows)
Visiting Scholars (Visiting Professors, Junior Visiting Professors, Senior Visiting Researchers, Visiting Researchers)
Emeriti Professors and PhD students currently do not have profiles. Employment information synchronises with CEU’s Human Resources Information System (SAP) each night. When a researcher leaves CEU, their profile is automatically removed from the public portal, but all data are retained in Pure's internal database.
Where do the data come from?
Pure's data come from various internal and external sources, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate representation of research activities, outputs, and achievements. The primary sources are:
• Internal systems: SAP Success Factors, ACRO databases, CEU People
• Bibliographic databases: Scopus, Web of Science, MTMT, K10plus, WorldCat, etc.
• External researcher profiles: ORCID
• Data Monitor (dataset harvester)
• Manual input by the CEU Pure Implementation team
More data sources with automated workflows will be enabled as deemed feasible.
How does Pure differ from the CEU Open Research Repository?
The Open Research Repository (ORR) is an Open Access repository for faculty and student publications. It collects full-text publications as allowed by publishers and funder policies.
In contrast, Pure collects information about all faculty publications (not only Open Access). Contrary to ORR, it does not store full-text publications, but only publication metadata. Pure also includes metadata about other items, such as datasets, projects, activities, prizes/awards, press/media appearances, etc.
Can I upload my publication files to Pure?
It is not possible to upload publication files to Pure. Please provide links to your publications instead (preferably DOIs).
Can I submit an unpublished work?
We do not accept publications that are in preparation or under review. Please submit only published or accepted works (in press).
How is the data on my profile updated?
Updates to profiles can be made in two ways. On one hand, Pure automatically harvests data from external databases (e.g. bibliographic databases). As a result, data such as publications or datasets appear automatically in Pure. However, manual imports are necessary to enrich the system with information unavailable in external databases. The following list illustrates possible enrichments:
I notice that some of my publications are missing. Why?
Many publications in Pure have been automatically imported from external sources. However, databases such as Scopus and Web of Science don’t cover some social sciences and humanities disciplines, or non-English languages. Thus, it is likely that library staff haven’t been able to capture all your publications.
How can I update my publication data or request an update?
You can edit most of the bibliographical data yourself. Please refer to this section of the LibGuide to find out how to make changes to your publication data.
If you have any additional questions or comments regarding your publications (or any other type of content in Pure), please contact us by email: scholcom@ceu.edu.
Is it possible to authorize someone to manage my account?
Yes, it is possible to set up a so-called trusted user. This role is designed to give specific users elevated privileges, allowing them to manage and curate research information on the profile owner's behalf.
To set up a trusted user, email scholcom@ceu.edu and submit the person’s name and email address. Only individuals with a CEU email domain can execute this function.
When will my entry be approved by the Scholcom team so that it is publicly visible in the CEU Research Portal?
The Library Scholcom Team is diligently working to ensure your entry is visible in the CEU Research Portal as soon as possible. Please note that the entries are reviewed in the order they are received. Submissions should be as complete and accurate as possible to help facilitate an efficient validation process.
Can I remove a publication that doesn’t belong to me from my profile?
As publications are often automatically imported from external sources, an irrelevant publication may have been added to your profile. In such a case, you can disclaim it and the Pure administrators will remove it. Please refer to this section of the LibGuide for guidance on how to disclaim publications.
A notification on my profile informs me that "research outputs are waiting to be pushed to the next workflow step". What does it mean?
There might be new publications imported from external sources or added by the administrators queueing for final approval. Our Library team will process them shortly and there is nothing you need to do. If Pure administrators have any questions regarding these publications, they will contact you before approval.
What are fingerprints and how are they generated?
Fingerprints that appear on researcher profiles are automatically generated, based on publication titles, abstracts, research interest statements and prize descriptions. Fingerprints are aggregated at various levels to give an overall picture of the research activities of researchers and organizational units.
Why is my profile connected with the UN Sustainable Development Goals?
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are visible in Central European University Research Portal to align academic research with global priorities. Furthermore, the visibility of SDGs reflects a growing trend in academia to align research with global sustainability efforts, making it easier to track, promote, and maximize the impact of academic research on these crucial issues.
Who implemented Pure?
Pure implementation was led by the CEU Library, but many CEU organizational units participated. These include IT, Web Team, ACRO, IRO, and HRO. The Pro-Rector for Research and Faculty, Agi Batory, is the Project Sponsor.
